Do I need to have the $12k initial margin to day trade or the $500 is the minimum needed to day trade. Yesterday there was a bug wherein they didn't take daylight savings into account, so if you tried to enter a trade after 3pm eastern, the system thought it was between 4 and 5pm and you needed full margin (e.g. $11k per ES contract). Doh! They fixed that. I was also told, like others, that margin requirements were going to be 4x for today. How much $ do you have to trade with. Basic math, 5 point ES stop for simplicity sake. You would need $50k for 1/2% risk which is 4x $25k and that's almost 9x leverage. Or 2% risk $12.5k that's pretty close to 18x leverage...
