Lost mucus plug at 27 weeks

I’m now 36 weeks and still pregnant. My c-section was booked for 39 weeks but cervix is soft so doc is considering moving it forward a week as he’s doubtful I’ll make it to 39. He says only contractions and water breaking are proper signs of labour, not losing mucus plug but it does mean something is going on.
