Curious what you find out. On my 2000 400 it would become very difficult to shift in cold weather, esp if running thru snow. I removed the gearshift lever and housing it is attached to and disassembled it. The grease was very used up so i cleaned it out and regreased it.

That means it will be hard to find any used parts. I drove a new one many years ago. One ride told me I didn't want one due to the suspension. It rode like the old Honda 350 4x4 with the solid front axle., On mine it is green. Get a multimeter, set it to test continuity, and ground one probe. Put the other one on the neutral wire, and when the machine is in neutral it should have continuity with the engine block. If it doesn't the switch is stuck open. Assuming there is a reverse wire, you can do the same and it should have continuity when in ..., Remove the gas tank cover. Then remove the gas tank and you can easily get to the starter. Remove all of the phillips screws and the two 6mm (10mm head) bolts at the back of the tank holding the tank cover on. Take the gas cap up and remove the tank cover.
